Here's how to get started:

  1. Power off your broadband modem and the existing router. Unpack your Linksys SPA942 IP Phone. Connect an ethernet cable from the WAN port on the SPA942 to the ethernet port/LAN port on the existing router.
  2. Connect an ethernet cable from the PC port on the SPA942 to the ethernet port of your computer/laptop. If you are connecting your laptop/computer wirelessly to your network through a wireless router, then disable wireless on your computer/laptop. Switch off your computer/laptop.
  3. Plug the handset cable between the handset and the base station from the port on the handset to the telephone port on the SPA942 base.
  4. Switch on the broadband modem first and then switch on the existing router, then switch on the SPA942. Do not switch on the computer right now. Wait for 3 mins or so and then switch it on.
  5. Now once the computer is completely up and running, then check if you have working internet connection, click on your web browser and open any website to check that, once you have working internet, then the first stage of setup is complete.
  6. Now click on Menu button on the SPA942 (this button has an icon of sqaure paper with a little fold on the top right), it is just below the button which has an envelope made on it.
  7. Now scroll down to Network using the Jog dial scroller (big round button at the front with 4 directional arrows) and write down the current IP address.
  8. Open your web browser, whichever you use (Internet explorer, Safari, Opera or Firefox).
  9. At the Address bar on the very top in the browser (where you write any website address), enter the current IP address that you just wrote down and hit enter. Make sure that there is no www or http prefixed to this current IP address while you enter it.
  10. A page will open in front of you which will say Linksys Telephone Configuration.
  11. On the top right hand side, click on Admin Login, the page will expand to more options.
  12. Now on the top right hand side, click on Advanced and further more options will be added to the page as new tabs

Now lift up your handset and press 303, then press dial and you should hear a talking clock, it means that the device is registered. Now dial your mobile number from your Blueface phone and it should ring and display the correct caller ID. After this successful call, dial your Blueface number from your mobile phone or another non Blueface landline and you should hear your Blueface phone ring. Once this is successful, then you are all set.

Note: Now you can take out the cable from the back of your computer/laptop and connect it the way it was (via an ethernet cable to the existing router or using your wireless network).

Note: Line 1 is setup on the SPA942 now. If you wish to use the Line 2 as well on your SPA942, then email support@blueface.ie and we will send you the guide on how to create a 2nd SIP to configure line 2 on your SPA942. DO NOT use the same user details on line 2, as they will conflict with line 1 and hence may cause the calls to fail.
